Schuylkill YMCA

The Schuylkill YMCA is a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Our mission is to strengthen our community by improving the quality of life and inspiring individuals and families to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body.

With the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility as our guide, we believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That's why every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

At the Y, we welcome everyone. When you join the Y, you belong to a community of men, women and children who strive every day to be healthy, confident, connected and secure. When you give to the Y, you continue to strengthen our community and move us all forward by providing financial assistance for people who need us the most. When you volunteer at the Y, you take an active role in making a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own community. When you advocate for the Y, you join a diverse movement committed to supporting and serving our community through promoting youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Together we make a difference.

The YMCA has been a part of Schuylkill County since the 1930's when it was introduced as the Pottsville YMCA. The Y was considered a leader in community events and activity, hosting teen and adult dances, community events, and promoting healthy living through swimming and sports programs like basketball. In the early '70's, the Pottsville Y closed its doors and it wasn't until 1997 that it was reincorporated as the Schuylkill YMCA, which continues to serve the county to this day. Located on Centre Street in the county capital of Pottsville, the Schuylkill Y serves a more diverse population of Schuylkill County residents than any other non-profit. With close to 2,000 members, the Y offers over 90 programs that feature a wide range of sports, recreation, and child care services for members of all ages, just to name a few.

Because we are here for everyone, the Schuylkill Y offered over $55,000 in scholarships last year alone. In addition, the Y provided nearly $11,000 of indirect aid to other non-profits, churches, and social organizations as a conduit to accomplish our mutual goal of helping every family live healthy and responsibly.

How We Are Funded:

YMCA funding is generated from membership and program fees, individual and corporate donors, foundations and grants, and the Schuylkill United Way. The annual Y Thrive Campaign raises money for financial assistance to ensure that no one is turned away for lack of funds in an atmosphere of inclusion and support. In addition, the Schuylkill Y hosts two major fundraisers each year--our annual golf tournament in June and dinner/auction in February.

Organizational Structure:

The Schuylkill YMCA is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors which sets policy and oversees activities of the entire Association. The Y structure also includes a Board of Trustees consisting of local business leaders and industry executives.
